Teacher Spotlights are our way of highlighting and getting to know some awesome teachers in our community who use Planboard to simplify their lesson planning.

Meet Rachel!

Q: What is your favourite/most used feature in Planboard?

A: Printing sub plans! I also use lesson templates to auto-fill our school’s template into my lessons.

Q: How has Planboard made your life easier?

A: Instead of having a separate document for notes, schedules, and lesson plans, I can digitally hand off access to my lessons to a sub with minimal extra effort.

Q: What’s the most valuable thing your students have taught you?

A: No matter what challenges lie before you, with the right attitude and hard work, the world is possible.

Q: What is your favourite quote? Why?

A: “You are loved. You are capable. You are smart.” Sometimes we need a reminder of what we should remember about ourselves, especially when we feel down.

Q: What is something you wish your students knew about you?

A: How many extra hours go into learning about them in order to make their lessons fun and engaging.

Q: Who had the most influence on you growing up? Why?

A: My dad always encouraged me to keep learning.

Q: If you could take your students on any field trip, where would you go?

A: I would love to take my students to the Computer History Museum in San Francisco. There is so much history around the world of technology, and I think they take for granted the powerful computers they carry in their pockets.

Q: If you had your own talk show, who would you invite on the show as your first guest? Why?

A: Wil Wheaton. I loved him as a character in Star Trek, and I love his takes on technology and the world. I think he’s a very interesting person.

Q: What movie/tv show/book do you think everyone should watch/read? Why?

A: I absolutely adore Orphan Black and the intersection of technology and health. It’s so awesome, and Tatiana Maslany does an amazing job portraying so many different characters!
